Day two & the evening of surprise

This morning we went for Bonefish again, but caught just one fish each.
Stefan and Alex had a few shots on Permit, a realy surprising encounter with a couple of Manatees ( Seekühe ) and that was it.

BUT….then there came the evening…

After dinner we went to the pier to check if there where an fish and met one of the US-Guys trying to catch a Tarpon to complete his “Grand-Slam” – Permit, Tarpon and Bonefish caught in day.

Stefan desided to give the US-Boys a casting lesson and here is the result….

Fishing the Ascension Bay – Day One

This is what we were waiting for…fishing the great waters of the Ascension Bay!
It is also Peters first day ever of saltwater fly fishing, and yes he got his first Bone!!!
Unfortunately we did not take any pictures of that fish. :(

We went for Bonefish only, so Peter could get used to the guides commands and learn how to spot the fish.
Two fish each was the days result.

There were five Permits caught in total by the group from the US.

Today I desided to upload only a couple of pictures a day as the internet connection at the lodge is quite slow, but I will upload a picture gallery on saturday, as we do not fish that day.

Final leg…

It took us more than 24 hours, including two delayed flights to finally fall in our beds at the Hotel Rey Caribe in Cacun.
Looks like 2-star flophouse from the outside but once you step in you’ll find a tropical garden and are instantly upgraded to a 2.5 star hotel. ;-)

Hotel Rey Caribe

After 5 hours of sleep we are heading south to Ascencion Bay with our huge private airplane.

Airplane

It’s about 40 minutes flight to Casa Blanca Lodge on the edge of the Sian Kaan natural biosphere…

From the airstrip it’s only a three minutes boat ride to the Casa Blanca pier, where will be received by thed staff with a cool and fruity cocktail.

Ready to go!!!

We’ve been waiting for this day for almost 11 month now, and yes it’s happening!
We are going back to Casa Blanca Lodge! Yeeeeehaaaaaa!

I gonna meet Stefan, Alex and Peter in Frankfurt to board the plane to Mexico City.
20.5 hours from now to arrive in Cancun…puuuh
But this great place is definitely worth every single minute of the journey!

Luckily there is free wlan access here at the Vienna Airport, and this is exactly where I am writing these few lines. If anybody would have told me that this was possible just 10 years ago. *g*

I’m so exited, I don’t even know what to write…but who cares…
…there’s sun, sea and great fishing ahead!!!

Two more nights…

We are getting ready to invade the Yucatan peninsula!

Time for the last tackle check, go and look for that good-luck hat, and let everybody know that paradise is near. That might be the reason why my friends ignored my phone calls all day long…hehe

Stefan had a very pleasant visit to the dentist this morning, but I rather die back home, than having dental surgery in the mangroves. I guess he will be rewarded with one or the other nice Permit…and I do indeed smell some kind of a monster-slam. :-)

The weater forecast for Tulum, which is the closest location listed on weater.com, has changed dramatically today. Good chances of rain for next week, but at least temperatures are not going to drop and they predict very moderate winds. Therefore the fishing should be fine and we do as always hope for the best.

This afternoon Alex suggested to go after the huge cudas of the Ascension Bay…

Shark Attack

…good idea, as long as he gets rid of those other beasts! ;-)

Three days to go…

Just three days away from this years visit to the Casa Blanca Lodge, located in the Sian Kaan natural reserve on the caribbean coast of Yucatan, we can’t wait to board the plane for our 16.5 hours trip to Cancun.
Can’t tell you how much I wished they offered a “beam-me-over” option for their overseas visitors.

This time the hardcore idiots ( me, Stefan and Alex) booked two full weeks to avoid last years weather disaster. Peter will be fishing with us the first week, Gerhard should arrive on monday for the rest of our stay, and Wolfgang, Stefan, Harald, Franz and Manfred will be joining us the second week.

This year we’ll be arriving four weeks later than last year, hoping to find better fishing conditions compared to last years cold wind and rain. It might just have been bad luck, but five out of seven days with heavy rain and nasty rotating winds is not what we where after.

No sex, no drugs (naja, schau ma mal), no rock’n roll…just fishing, relaxing and enjoying ourselfs.
