Fishing the Ascension Bay – Day One
This is what we were waiting for…fishing the great waters of the Ascension Bay!
It is also Peters first day ever of saltwater fly fishing, and yes he got his first Bone!!!
Unfortunately we did not take any pictures of that fish. :(
We went for Bonefish only, so Peter could get used to the guides commands and learn how to spot the fish.
Two fish each was the days result.
There were five Permits caught in total by the group from the US.
Today I desided to upload only a couple of pictures a day as the internet connection at the lodge is quite slow, but I will upload a picture gallery on saturday, as we do not fish that day.

Final leg…
It took us more than 24 hours, including two delayed flights to finally fall in our beds at the Hotel Rey Caribe in Cacun.
Looks like 2-star flophouse from the outside but once you step in you’ll find a tropical garden and are instantly upgraded to a 2.5 star hotel. ;-)
After 5 hours of sleep we are heading south to Ascencion Bay with our huge private airplane.
It’s about 40 minutes flight to Casa Blanca Lodge on the edge of the Sian Kaan natural biosphere…
From the airstrip it’s only a three minutes boat ride to the Casa Blanca pier, where will be received by thed staff with a cool and fruity cocktail.

Two more nights…
We are getting ready to invade the Yucatan peninsula!
Time for the last tackle check, go and look for that good-luck hat, and let everybody know that paradise is near. That might be the reason why my friends ignored my phone calls all day long…hehe
Stefan had a very pleasant visit to the dentist this morning, but I rather die back home, than having dental surgery in the mangroves. I guess he will be rewarded with one or the other nice Permit…and I do indeed smell some kind of a monster-slam. :-)
The weater forecast for Tulum, which is the closest location listed on weater.com, has changed dramatically today. Good chances of rain for next week, but at least temperatures are not going to drop and they predict very moderate winds. Therefore the fishing should be fine and we do as always hope for the best.
This afternoon Alex suggested to go after the huge cudas of the Ascension Bay…
…good idea, as long as he gets rid of those other beasts! ;-)
